About pilates
A method almost a century in the making.
Developed by Joseph Pilates and refined ever since, here is where the practice came from, and why it still works.

History of pilates
Strength, control and a very good idea.
Where it began
Pilates has been around for almost 100 years and continues to grow in popularity because of its ability to strengthen, tone and improve the body in a safe and controlled way.
Originally developed by Joseph Pilates, the method combines core strength, flexibility, posture, balance and controlled movement alongside breathing techniques and mindfulness. Unlike many high-impact forms of exercise, Pilates focuses on improving the way the body moves and functions as a whole.
From mat to machine
Over the years, Pilates has evolved significantly, with Reformer Pilates becoming one of the most popular and effective ways to experience its full-body benefits.
If you are already familiar with mat Pilates, you may have noticed the rise in popularity of Reformer Pilates studios and the distinctive reformer beds used during sessions.
The reformer
A Pilates reformer is a specialist piece of equipment designed to support and challenge the body through controlled resistance and movement. Using a system of springs, ropes, pulleys and a sliding carriage, the reformer allows for a huge variety of exercises suitable for all abilities and fitness levels.
Why it matters here
At Core Reformer Pilates in Altrincham, our professional aluminium reformer beds are designed to provide smooth, controlled movement while supporting strength, mobility, flexibility and posture improvement.
However, we believe Reformer Pilates is about far more than simply using the equipment.
